Top 5 Places to Paddle Board around Tampa Bay

There is no better way to explore the waters of Tampa Bay then by paddleboarding. From the Gulf of Mexico, to the intercoastal, and between, there is such a diverse environment. These are a few of our cherished spots for paddleboarding Tampa Bay.

1. Shell Key Nature Preserve – probably the greatest hidden gem in the area, Shell Key is an 1,800 acre nature preserve that has everything you would want on a day out on your SUP. Keep an eye out for dolphins, manatee, and of course find the perfect shells!


2. Weeden Island – A short drive from downtown St Pete, Weeden Island is a 3,100 acre nature preserve that has plenty of mangroves and a series of tunnels. It’s a great spot to go if your limited on time and want to see a lot. It’s a great place to cast a line in for snook and redfish.


3. Caladesi Island – the best way to experience Caladesi island is by paddleboarding out to the beach and mangroves. The water is often crystal clear over the white sand bottom making it a picturesque adventure. Be sure to keep a lookout for manatee and dolphin as they frequently visit this area. Many visitors take the 1 mile loop out to the island however more adventurous people take a 3 mile loop back into the mangroves.


4. North Shore Park – Just north of downtown St Pete this spot is a great launch for your next paddleboard adventure. If you head north you can venture into coffee pot bayou where manatees are plentiful, or you can head south to see the St Pete city skyline with views of the new pier.


5. Lassing Park – Easily accessible from downtown St Pete, very calm and quite area with easy parking and access to the shore. Normally Lassing Park is protected from the winds and is a convenient place to take a short paddle.
